Town seeks purchasing agent

UPPER FREEHOLD — Althea Headley, who has been the township’s municipal purchasing agent since 2009, was given a fond farewell by township officials recently after they accepted her resignation.

“[Althea] has done a great job in the time she has been here, and it is unfortunate she’s leaving,” Committeeman Stephen Alexander said. “This is a good person we are losing, but she is going on to bigger things, so good for her.”

Headley also served as the assistant to Business Administrator Dianne Kelley.

“She was a very good employee and we are going to miss her,” Kelley said.

Headley accepted a position in another municipality.

Officials have posted an advertisement for the position of municipal purchasing agent on the New Jersey League of Municipalities website.

According to the job listing, candidates for the position are required to already have their certification in public purchasing or be working toward obtaining certification. Other necessary skills include experience with the purchasing program Edmunds, good writing skills, a proficiency with various programs in the Microsoft Office suite and a working knowledge of personnel management.

“We are looking for an administrative assistant with purchasing experience,” Kelley said. “The job also entails personnel, human resources issues and accounts payable, as well as insurance issues and dealing with the public.”

No salary range was listed in the advertisement, but Headley’s salary was about $45,000 a year.

“I would like to have someone hired as soon as possible,” Kelley said. “Althea was a very good employee and we are going to miss her.”
