Red tape drives business out of town

I n regards to the article “Mayor: Empty Storefronts a New Reality,” published in the Oct. 23 issue of the Sentinel, it is amazing any businesses still exist in East Brunswick. With the township rules and regulations being so strict, and a fee in the town for everything you do, it’s amazing anyone wants to have a store or office in East Brunswick.

For example, if you want to change the carpet in your office, you need to apply for a permit and pay a fee to the town. If a new tenant wants to move in, the tenant must first apply for a letter of intent, then pay a fee for a certificate of occupancy and fill out several forms. The amount of paperwork is just crazy. The fees are crazy. So, why would anyone want a business in this town?

Business owners go to Old Bridge or go to South River if they want to open a small business. Obviously, people are doing this, as not too many storefronts are vacant in those towns compared to East Brunswick.
