Students receive awards from VSA New Jersey

VSA New Jersey (VSA/NJ), a nonprofit statewide organization that provides arts programming for people with disabilities, honored the recipients of the 2014 Arts Achievement Awards on April 26 with a ceremony at Linwood Middle School in North Brunswick.

The annual awards recognize students who have disabilities and who demonstrate outstanding involvement in the arts, and educators and administrators who have established high-quality arts programs for young people with disabilities.

Local award recipients included:

 Vincent Arizzo of Monroe, who attends Monroe Township High School, Student Arts Excellence Award for video;

 Amber Lynn Malmstadt of Monroe, who attends Monroe Township High School, Student Arts Excellence Award for dance;

 Cristian Maldonado of Old Bridge, who attends the Rugby School at Woodfield, Recognition in the Arts Award for instrumental music; and

 Andrew Surgent of Parlin, who attends the Rugby School at Woodfield, Recognition in the Arts Award for instrumental music.
