Author to offer advice on writing mysteries

Sisters in Crime/Central Jersey (SinC/CJ) will present a program titled “Lunch and More With Alice Orr” 12:30-4 p.m. Feb. 22 at Ciro’s Ristorante Italiano, 301 Buckelew Ave., Monroe.

Orr, a mystery author, book editor and agent, will offer a seminar, “Writing the Thriller/Mystery to Die For.” She will explain why the thriller is one of the most lucrative categories in publishing today; why the mystery novel is so enduringly popular; and how to create a hero, a heroine and a villain to thrill agents and editors. She also will offer tips on how to avoid the “seven deadly sins” that can destroy a writing career.

The workshop will include a meet-andgreet with Orr, the seminar and a questionand answer session. The day will include a hot buffet lunch with dessert, beverages and a cash bar. There will be book giveaways. Cost is $40 per person.
