The Suburban Artist Guild (SAG) will hold its first regular meeting of the 2010-11 year at 1 p.m. Sept. 17 at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center. The event will feature a light luncheon followed by a “show and tell” of recently competed artwork. Prospective members are welcome.
Future SAG meetings will be held on the second Friday of the month at the library. Plans for the upcoming year include miniworkshops and demonstrations, a drawing session with a live model and a video-viewing session. In addition, several group exhibits are planned. SAG includes all ages and levels of artists from professional to nonprofessional and beginner to advanced.
Several group members received awards at the recent Middlesex County Senior Citizen Art Contest and Exhibition held at Middlesex County College, Edison. The winners were: Robert Heyer, second place, professional category, watercolor; Allie Skislak, first place, nonprofessional category, drawing; Grace Chiarella, first place, nonprofessional, watercolor; Virginia Tanko, honorable mention, nonprofessional, pastel; and Miriam Wolin, second place, sculpture.
SAG member Bernice Rappoport has three paintings, and P.D. Swelt has two paintings in the juried Summer Pleasures exhibit at the gallery in the South Brunswick Municipal Building through Sept. 30.
Member Allie Skislak had three paintings accepted in the juried Gardens of the Garden State art show of the Edison Arts Society at the Edison Municipal Building. She earned second place for her watercolor and honorablemention for her pen-and-ink leaf design.
