As a longtime East Brunswick resident and as a parent, I find the possibility of a Hooters restaurant opening in our community to be highly disturbing, to say the least. Local girls are hired as “waitresses,” required to work in clothing that displays that part of their anatomy synonymous with the restaurant’s name.
In a community where we strive for excellence in education, why would we want our children to use their bodies to earn money, instead of using their minds? Make no mistake, Hooters uses these girls as a lure for business.
There is a good reason why there is no Hooters restaurant anywhere in Middlesex County — it is simply not the type of restaurant that belongs in a family-oriented community. I urge all parties responsible for this decision to reject any proposal for the opening of a Hooters on Route 18 or anywhere in our township.
Unfortunately, we can’t stop this from occurring elsewhere, but we cannot and should not allow it to happen here.
