Spotswood names new director of technology

SPOTSWOOD — The Board of Education approved the appointment of Eric Sheninger as director of technology integration and innovation at its Oct. 7 meeting.

Sheninger graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore with a Bachelor of Science in marine/environmental sciences.

He then went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in biology from Salisbury State University in Maryland. He completed his graduate work in wildlife/fisheries biology at Frostburg State University and attained his Masters in Educational Administration from East Stroudsburg University.

As an educator, Sheninger has 14 years of experience, four of which were as a high school teacher, two as director of athletics/supervisor of health and physical education, and eight as a high school vice principal/principal in New Milford.

He has received many awards and honors, including the National School Board Association’s “20 to Watch” for Technology Leadership 2010; Edublog Awards: Best School Administrator blog (2011); ASCD Conference Scholar (2011); NASSP Digital Principal Award Winner (2012); Phi Delta Kappan Emerging Leader Award recipient (2012); and Bammy Award winner (2013).

He is also the author of “Digital Leadership: Changing Paradigms for Changing Times” and co-author of “Essentials for School Principals: Communicating & Connecting with Social Media” and “What Principals Need to Know about Teaching Science.”

“I am excited to play my part in helping the district become a state and national leader in innovative practices that prepare students to be real-world-ready,” he said.

Sheninger assumed the position of director on Oct. 13 at no cost to the Board of Education.

“Mr. Sheninger’s proven track record of success as a school leader who has effectively integrated technology into teaching and learning will be a wonderful complement to our teachers’ and students’ educational success,” Superintendent of Schools Scott Rocco said.
