Free Fun, Food and Fitness Fair will help you take a step toward health, wellness

‘M ove to Improve” will once again be the motto of Parker

Home’s Fun, Food and Fitness Fair, a fourth annual event for adults 55+.The fair will be held on April 13, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Parker at the Pavilion Center for Healthy Aging.

Regular daily exercise is a key factor in pain management, while improving strength and balance during the aging process. Parker Center for Healthy Aging is collaborating with a variety of health experts to provide comprehensive programs for the Central Jersey adult community. In addition to the informational lectures about health and exercise, the event will give visitors the opportunity to enjoy classes on resistance training, Zumba, and Tai Chi. Parker personal trainers will lead the sessions and motivate participants to begin a healthier lifestyle.“You have to work at being well,” stated Lori Morell, health and wellness coordinator at Parker Home.“That is the prescription for achieving wellness.”

Good nutrition is another major component in maintaining your health.Attendees will enjoy free lunch, plus cooking demonstrations presented by Chef Robert Klingebiel, executive director of Dining/Nutrition Services. In previous years, participants have raved about the quality of food at Parker’s Fun, Food and Fitness Fair.“My favorite part of the event is the cooking demonstrations,” stated Eva, a participant from last year’s event.“I liked how he made it fun and easy to make at home.”

Health and fitness lectures will include the Arthritis Foundation; UMDNJ medical residents will teach you how to speak with your doctor;Weston Therapy will share the secrets of safe exercise; Rutgers graduate students will host a series of fun games for the body and mind; and a massage therapist will indulge you with a relaxing chair massage.
