The Lawrence Brook Watershed Partnership (LBWP) is conducting an Organic (Chemical-Free) Lawn and Home-Cleaning Products Sale 10 a.m.-noon on Saturdays at the group’s headquarters building, 85 Washington Ave., Milltown.
The nonprofit LBWP, dedicated to the protection of the Lawrence Brook Watershed, seeks to encourage area residents to avoid the use of chemical lawn, garden and home-cleaning products in favor of natural products, which are healthier for the waterways and the environment. Data shows that stormwater runoff, contaminated by chemical lawn fertilizers and pesticides, can contribute to the degradation of the quality of drinking-water supplies, and that lawns and gardens fed with organic fertilizers and insecticides are naturally healthier than those fed with chemicals and are low in phosphate, a major contaminant in streams.
Proceeds from the sale will sponsor LBWP nature walks, bike rides, educational programs, mailings, printings and town cleanups.
Order forms are available at local libraries, at the group’s headquarters, online at www.lbwp.org, or by calling 732-249- 5297 (LBWP).
The LBWP is a nonprofit volunteer organization with environmental interests in East Brunswick, North Brunswick, South Brunswick, New Brunswick and Milltown.
