Michael Aaron Rockland, Ph.D., will offer a presentation titled “FUSION 2013 — Ethnicity in America: Becoming American” at 7 p.m. May 6 at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center.
Rockland will offer an examination of how various ethnic groups struggle to become American while simultaneously maintaining their identity and integrity. He will explore how the “melting pot,” used as a metaphor describing American life, has been replaced by the “salad bowl” or “the mosaic.”
The free program is sponsored by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities Horizon Speakers Bureau, Agraj Seva Kendra, the India Association of Garden State, Enjoy Explore India and the library.
