Monroe arts panel slates adult education events

The Monroe Township Cultural Arts Commission will sponsor a variety of upcoming adult education classes. All classes will be held at Monroe Township High School, Perrineville Road, unless otherwise indicated.

The schedule is as follows:

+ “Lectures-in-Songs: ‘How Ya Gonna Keep ‘Em Down on the Farm?,’ 1892-1919” – with Fred Miller, pianist/singer/narrator, 6-7:30 p.m., April 12. Miller will present a musical anecdotal overview of the era preceding World War I. Fee is $6.

+ “Husband, Wives, Lover and Friends” – with Ed Schappe, 7-9 p.m., April 17. The lecture will explore the relationships with marital partners, close friends or lovers that served to inspire artists. Topics will include Georgia O’Keefe, Diego Rivera, Motherwell and Dali. Fee is $6.

+ “Lectures-in-Song: ‘Happy Days Are Here Again,’ 1920-1929” – with Fred Miller presenting a musical anecdotal overview of the Roaring Twenties, 6-7:30 p.m., April 19. Fee is $6.

+ “Lectures-in-Song: ‘Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf,?’ 1930-1937” – an anecdotal musical overview of the Great Depression Era with Fred Miller, 6-7:30- p.m., April 26. Fee is $6.

+ “Jewish Paper Cutting” – a lecture and demonstration with artist Deborah Ugoretz, 7-8:30 p.m., April 26. Ugoretz, will present antique Jewish paper cuts, will describe the meaning behind commonly found symbols and what makes a particular paper cut Jewish. The discussion will provide a window into Jewish culture while illustrating how the commemoration of life’s events and celebrations are expressed through folk art. Fee is $6.
