MILLTOWN — A married borough couplewas tied up and robbed during a home invasion by armed intruders last week.

Around 9:30 p.m. May 21, three unknown suspects broke into a home on North Brook Drive by forcing their way through a rear door. The men, believed to be two black males and one white male, dressed in black, wore masks and gloves, and carried handguns during the robbery, according to Milltown police.

The suspects secured the husband and wife by using flexible handcuffs. They threatened several times to kill the victims during the incident, according to police.

The three men went through the house and took money from several locations before leaving the residence. Police said the amount of money taken was not known.

Before leaving, the suspects threatened the victims, telling them not to call the police for 10 minutes or they would come back and kill them, police said.

The men, who were at the house for about an hour to 90 minutes, fled in an unknown direction, and police said it was not known if anyone saw them leaving the scene or getting into a vehicle. At some point after they left, the husband was able to free himself from the constraints and go to a neighbor’s house to call the police. Police Chief Raymond Geipel said the suspects had smashed the victims’ cell phones during the robbery.

Police did not release the identities of the husband and wife, who are about 50 years old, according to Geipel.

Nobody was hurt in the robbery, he said.

Police are investigating the circumstances, and Geipel said it was not clear why the suspects chose this house.

“We’re still trying to put a lot of that stuff together,” he said.

Geipel said such home invasions are extremely rare for this area, with the last one being about 12 to 14 years ago.
