Sept. 29 open house

The trustees of the Spotswood Public Library, 548 Main St., will hold an open house from noon to 4 p.m. on Sept. 29.

The public is invited to meet the library’s newest trustees, Harvey Lohr and Joanne McWilliams.

Lohr is a longtime Spotswood resident who for many years headed up the borough’s Public Works Department. McWilliams, who comes to the board as the appointee of the Superintendent of Schools, is the library media specialist at Spotswood High School.

The event also will be an opportunity to say farewell to the retiring trustees, Neil Marotta and Don Carringer.

Marotta served on the board for approximately 40 years until his recent move to Lakewood. He will be honored on Oct. 3 at the Libraries of Middlesex award reception as Trustee of the Year for his many years of service to the Spotswood Public Library. Carringer, formerly library media specialist at Spotswood High School, was for several years the School Superintendent’s appointee to the board.

La Leche League sets

meetings for October

La Leche League of South River, a support group for expectant and nursing mothers in Middlesex and Monmouth counties, will hold its monthly meetings at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 2 and 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 3 at the South River Library, 55 Appleby Ave.

Topic will be "A New Baby: Realistic Expectations." Babies, mothers and mothers-to-be are welcome. The group shares information on parenting and mothering choices with mothers in East Brunswick, South River, Spotswood, Monroe, Jamesburg, Old Bridge, Sayreville, Matawan and Aberdeen.

Watershed bike tour

planned for Sept. 29

The Lawrence Brook Watershed Partnership and the New Jersey Community Water Watch will conduct a 25-mile "Water Wheels Bicycle Tour" along the Lawrence Brook Watershed beginning at 9 a.m. on Sept. 29. Participants will meet at parking lot No. 99C at Cook College of Rutgers University, New Brunswick. The free, informational event will take place rain or shine. Helmets are required. Law panel sets talk on

estate planning, wills

The New Jersey State Bar Foundation will present a free seminar on wills and estate planning from 1-3 p.m. on Oct. 2 at the New Jersey Law Center, One Constitution Square (off Ryders Lane), New Brunswick.

Topics will include wills and trusts, gift and tax planning, New Jersey probate procedures, power of attorney, living wills, federal estate tax and New Jersey inheritance tax.

‘Scramble’ for Oct. 6

The Spotswood Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will hold a "Scramble" at 6 p.m. on Oct. 6 at the Spotswood Fire Department, Main Street.

Blood drive scheduled

for Sept. 30 in Milltown

The Blood Center of New Jersey will hold a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 30 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 233 N. Main St., Milltown.

Blood donors must be at least 18 years of age; 17-year-olds may donate with their parents’ permission. Donors should know their Social Security number and bring a signed or picture form of identification. Individuals with a fever or sore throat should wait until they are feeling better before donating. There is a 24-hour deferral for teeth cleanings and fillings.Those who have recently traveled outside of the U.S. should call (973) 676-4700, ext. 132, for eligibility criteria.
