Milltown man’s death a mystery
Police continue investigation; seek help from the public

Clifford Meny, the 74-year-old man found lying in a pool of blood outside his Cottage Avenue home on Aug. 17, died Sunday.

Meny was pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, after nearly three months of unresponsive behavior, leaving his family in mourning and police without a clue as to what really happened that summer day.

During the last few months, investigators from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office had questioned Meny’s doctors, who seemed to believe that a fall or blunt object could have caused Meny’s injury.

However, prior searches of the neighborhood failed to turn up any concrete evidence to support that opinion, according to Milltown police.

They are still conducting their own investigation into the cause of death.

Unless something new develops, county officials could revert to attributing Meny’s death to a heart attack, which family members seem to be unconvinced of.

Meny was lying only 12 feet from his car when two Pulyer’s patrons found him at 3:20 p.m. Pulyer’s, a local bar, is said to be where Meny was headed that Thursday afternoon.

Reportedly, Meny had just returned from a trip to Home Depot and a friend’s house. His family thinks he then decided to park his car at home and walk to the bar.

When Meny’s limp body was found, he was lying in blood and his wallet was missing.

It was later determined he had suffered a skull fracture.

Police are asking that anyone with information regarding the Aug. 17 incident to contact Sgt. Roy Manfredi at (732) 828-1100.
