slates open auditions

Open auditions for two upcoming Plays-in-the-Park productions are scheduled for Aug. 21 and Oct. 10 at the Stephen J. Capestro Theater, the home of Plays-in-the-Park, Roosevelt Park, Edison.

An open call is planned for 4 p.m. on Aug. 21 for three roles in the original children’s musical, "The Reluctant Dragon." Tryouts are for the roles of Mr. Bisfick, Mrs. Bisfick and Story Lady. For a complete description of each role, log on to www.playsinthepark.com. Participants should come prepared to sing 16 bars of an up-tempo (whimsical, if possible) song.

Auditions for the theater’s 10th anniversary production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" are planned for 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 10 for alumni of past productions of "Joseph," and 5 p.m. for newcomers. Individuals who are new to the show should come prepared to sing their best 16 bars from an up-tempo song — tunes from "Joseph" are welcome.

For more information, call the theater at (732) 548-2884, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays-Fridays, or log on to www.playsinthepark.com.

Plays-in-the-Park is sponsored by the Middlesex County Department of Parks and Recreation and the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders. Funding has been made possible in part by the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission through a grant provided by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, and by the financial support of the Friends of Plays-in-the-Park.
