Letter to the editor
To the editor:
The Lawrence Historical Society opened the 1761 John Brearley House to the public last week with so much fanfare that we welcome some quiet time now to repeat our message and reward our heroes.
The historic Brearley House, set in a 48-acre meadow, is open for business and we welcome inquiries about educational programming at the house at the end of Meadow Road in Lawrence. Please call 609-896-0782 for information. Public tours are now on the first Saturday of the month at 10 a.m.
Huzzah, huzzah, to our angels who carried the society to this success: The New Jersey Historic Trust; Educational Testing Service; Blau Mancino Associates; The Society of Colonial Wars, the New Jersey Chapter; and our township historian, Winona Nash. This opening was a collaborative effort, and the Brearley House has generous and talented friends the Garden Gate Garden Club, the Lawrence Arts Council; The Woman’s Club of Lawrenceville; the Lawrence Conservation Foundation; Three Bears Communications and all contributors to our auction. Hard workers included David Stout, Roger Persachell, Sally Baxter, David Kimzey, Tahirh Smith, Chantal McCarroll, Elric Endersby and Gary Mount.
Finally, our heartfelt gratitude to our mayor, Greg Puliti, and our township council and the past township councils that shared our vision for saving this educational site. We applaud you for your courage in preserving another historic home in Lawrenceville.
