Hightstown Post 148 is on its second winning streak of
the season. Considering the fact the streaks are separated by just a lone
loss, Hightstown’s record adds up to 9-1.
Going into action Thursday night against Mitchell Davis,
Hightstown was on a five-game winning streak. Four of those wins came this
past week.
Hightstown picked up win number six June 15 against North
Trenton, 9-7. Mike Pramberger picked up the win in relief, allowing just
one run and four hits over the last two-and-two-third innings. Pramberger
also had a good game at the plate, collecting two hits and two RBI.
Coming into action this week, Pramberger was hitting
.464. He leads the league with two homers, six doubles, 14 hits and 14 RBI.
Hightstown’s offense has produced a lot of runs this season. In fact, at
the start of the week five of the six top run scorers came from
Hightstown.
Dale Scherholz leads the league with 15 runs scored. He
had two hits and three runs scored against North Trenton. Tom Hopkins has
scored 13 runs. He had a run and hit against North Trenton. Paul Canciello
(run and two hits) and Evan Hom (two runs and two hits) also were among the
league leaders in runs scored.
Sean Stone connected for a two-run homer against North
Trenton. Brian Heyesey added two hits and two RBI.
Hightstown followed this with an 11-9 win over Hopewell
on Friday. Hightstown overcame a shaky start with a combined three
scoreless innings of work by Don Provost and Pramberger. Provost recorded
seven of those outs and has a 4-0 record on the season.
Hopkins (two hits, two runs and a RBI), Scherholz (two
runs, hit and RBI), Heyesey (three runs, three hits, two RBI), Pramberger
(run, hit and two RBI), Stone (run, two hits and a RBI) and Canciello
(double and two runs) supplied the offense.
Hightstown also added a 13-2 win over Princeton this past
Saturday. Bret Rodgers was the starting – and winning – pitcher. He worked
six innings and only allowed one run and four hits. James Peterson pitched
the seventh inning.
The pitching win improved Rodgers to 3-1 on the year.
Going into action this week, Rodgers also had an ERA of 0.42. This is the
best in the league among pitchers who have thrown more than seven innings
this season.
Rodgers was backed by another great offensive game by the
Hightstown offense. Pramberger had a single, double, homer, two runs scored
and five RBI. Canciello had two hits, two runs scored and a RBI. Pat Dimon
and David Griffith each had a hit and RBI. Hopkins (three runs and a hit),
Scherholz (run, hit and two RBI), Heyesey (two runs and two hits), Hom
(run, two hits and two RBI) and Lohrmann (run, RBI and two hits) also had
good games on offense.
Hightstown improved to 9-1 with a 7-3 win over Ewing on
Tuesday night. Provost worked the first six innings and allowed three hits,
three runs (two earned), two walks and five strikeouts. Pat Dimon struck
out three batters in a scoreless seventh.
Dale Scherholz had a great offensive game for Hightstown
with two hits, two runs scored and three RBI. Canciello had a hit, run
scored and two RBI. Hopkins, Pramberger, Stone and Matt Loverin each had a
hit and run scored.
Hightstown’s great start took on even more meaning this
past weekend when it was announced the legion schedule was being cut from
27 to 22 games. For the most part, this will do away with Saturday
afternoon doubleheaders. Hightstown will not face the other 11 teams in the
league two times each.
The reasoning behind the elimination of five games is to
make sure the regular season is completed by July 14, so that league and
state playoffs can take place on schedule in July. From the looks of
things, Hightstown plans to be in those playoffs.
