BOARD NAMES NEW SUPERINTENDENT

Connecticut educator will replace Kohn

The Lawrence Township Board of Education named Dr. Max Riley, a superintendent of a school district in Connecticut, as its new superintendent of schools at a meeting last night.
Dr. Riley, 49, will begin working in Lawrence Sept. 18 with a four-year contract that expires on June 30, 2004. His annual salary will be $135,000. Dr. Riley has been the superintendent of the Plainville Community School District in Connecticut for the past three years.
Before his tenure in Plainville, Dr. Riley worked as an educator in Oregon. He has a Ph.D. in education administration from the University of Oregon. His master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Humboldt State University in California are in psychology.
Dr. Riley will replace Dr. Claire Sheff Kohn in Lawrence, who took the reins of the neighboring Princeton Regional School District earlier this month.
