Benedetto Mattei, 81, died Aug. 9 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy.
Born in Perugia, Italy, he came to the United States in 1954 and settled in Jamesburg shortly after. He was a porter at Carter Wallace Corp. in Cranbury for more than 15 years until retiring in 1985. He was a member of the St. James Council No. 6336 and the Italian American Club of South River. He was also a member of the St. James R.C., Jamesburg.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Santina (Lupini); a son, Louis Mattei of Hausbrouck Heights; two daughters, Domenica Yesaitis of Jamesburg and Milana Mattei of Margate; a brother Giovanni in Italy; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, Monroe. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. James R.C., Jamesburg. Entombment followed at Holy Cross Mausoleum, South Brunswick.
