Pupply mills grossly abusive

To the editor:
My sincere thanks to Rose Reina-Rosenbaum for her letter about puppy mills, and to you for publishing it.
I do Siberian Husky Rescue and have witnessed this firsthand. My very first experience with Rescue was transporting three puppy mill puppies to their foster home on Cape Cod. They came from a puppy mill near Scranton-Wilkes Barre. The owner was shutting down and had threatened to kill all of them.
A wonderful woman named Shirley, who takes in rescues at Angels of the Snow, offered to take them in if we could get them to her.
Someone from the area picked them up and brought them to the rest area near the Delaware Water Gap, where I got them and took them to Lorraine, who took them to someone in Connecticut, who took them to Cape Cod.
They were about 4 months old. Three of them. One male and two females. They had spent their entire lives in their cages, with no human contact whatsoever. Their fur was matted. They had no idea how to walk on a leash.
I had to literally pick them up and carry them to my car. I tried to give them treats. They had no idea what treats were. They never moved during our entire trip, just laid on the back seat and whimpered.
I went home and cried. Folks, this is what you are getting when you buy a pet store puppy.
The story has a happy ending. Shirley named them Faith, Hope and Charity, and all three have been placed in loving forever homes.
We have fostered three rescues since then, all of whom have found their forever homes, and will undoubtedly foster more. Thank you for helping.
