Gary Garwacke, the borough administrator and engineer, will get a $5,000 yearly raise for his work under an agreement passed Monday by the Borough Council.
Mr. Garwacke has held seven positions in the borough since he began work there in 1992 and holds four licenses the state requires municipalities to cover.
A contract between Mr. Garwacke and the borough specifies that his $80,000 salary will include pay for his work as engineer and several other jobs he does for the borough.
Dean Shepard, a Hillsborough resident who owns a business in Manville, questioned Mr. Garwacke’s potential duties in the future. Mr. Shepard said Mr. Garwacke’s salary previously was "sold to the public" as $60,000 as administrator and $15,000 as engineer.
"It was never passed as individual salaries," Councilwoman Senga Allan responded.
She said Mr. Garwacke "has done a fantastic job."
"I think his raise is well-deserved," Ms. Allan said. She apologized for a month’s delay in granting the raise, delayed from July 10.
Mayor Angelo Corradino also praised Mr. Garwacke for responding to a potential flooding problem Saturday when the two of them and Philip E. Petrone, the superintendent of Public Works, viewed the water problems on Gress Street.
