Sophomore is huge loss at guard

The revolving door continues in Old Nassau.
Spencer Gloger, Princeton University’s leading returning scorer with the loss of Chris Young, will not return to the men’s basketball team this year. He did report to Princeton this past week and even played pick-up games with the team.
But his mother, Cindy, confirmed that she and Gloger’s father, John, picked up Spencer from the airport Saturday. And it’s not just a weekend visit home.
He is expected to transfer, and one school being mentioned is UCLA, Gloger’s second choice coming out of Santa Margarita High. Division I transfers must sit out one full year after changing schools.
According to NCAA regulations, in order for Gloger to be eligible next fall, he must enroll in another school before its 12th day of class. UCLA is on a quarter system and does not begin its fall quarter until Sept. 28.
With the loss of the 6-foot-10 Young and 6-foot-6 Gloger, Princeton will not have its top inside and outside players from a year ago plus its emotional leader, Mason Rocca, who graduated. They were the Tigers’ three leading scorers last season.
In addition, Princeton will be without its top three-point shooter percentage-wise in Ray Robins, who is taking a leave of absence for a year. Gloger, who averaged 12.1 points per game, had the second-best three-point percentage while leading the team with 57 made three-pointers.
Due to the lateness of this development, new Princeton head coach John Thompson could not be reached for comment.
Gloger was also unavailable at the time of posting.
