Colgate quarterback Tom McCune threw three touchdown passes and rushed for two other scores as the Red Raiders topped Princeton, 34-6, Saturday in Hamilton, N.Y.
McCune, who finished the game completing 16 of 27 passes for 218 yards, produced four of those touchdowns in the first half as the Red Raiders raced to a 27-0 lead at the break.
With the win, Colgate improved to 4-1 overall. Princeton, which has now completed the non-Ivy League portion of its schedule, fell to 1-3 overall. The Tigers have won their only Ivy League game and will resume Ivy League play Saturday at Princeton Stadium against Harvard.
Princeton trailed 34-0 in the fourth quarter when Marty Cheatham scored on a 1-yard touchdown run for the Tigers’ only score of the game.
For the second straight week Princeton lost its starting quarterback to an injury when senior Jon Blevins was forced to leave the game. Freshman David Splithoff replaced Blevins and completed five of his eight passes for 99 yards.
Kyle Brandt led the Princeton rushing attack with 80 yards on 21 carries. Chisom Opara caught six passes for 97 yards. Colgate finished the game with 413 yards in total offense, while Princeton managed 329 yards in offense, but produced just the one touchdown.
