MANVILLE — Joseph J. "Joe" Grillo Sr. died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000 at Somerset Medical Center. He was 79.
Born in Somerville he resided in Raritan Borough before settling in Manville in 1954.
He was a maintenance worker/painter for 25 years at Johns-Manville Corp., retiring in 1980.
He retired from the Army Reserve after 25 years of service.
He was a communicant of Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Manville.
Mr. Grillo was a member of the Manville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2290; the American Legion Post 304 in Manville; the Manville BPOE Lodge 2119 since the early 1960s where he served as Chaplain for many years and was named Elk of the Year from 1982-83; the Knights of Columbus St. Jude’s Council 6273 in Manville and was named Knight of the Year from 1976-77.
He belonged to the Boy Scouts of American representing Troop 193 in Manville; he was an active member of the Deborah Bound Brook Chapter; and a member of the Manville Senior Citizen’s Inc.
Survivors include his wife, Grace R. (Russo) Grillo; a daughter, Annamarie Masler of Raritan Borough; two sons, Alfe of Frenchtown, and Joseph J. Jr. of Ewing; four sisters, Mary Krysik of Lakewood, Angie Poland of Belden, Miss., Aurora Frey of Bound Brook, and Dolores Gumerlock of Bound Brook; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will begin at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 8 at Fucillo and Warren Funeral Home, Manville, followed by a 9 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at Christ the King Church. Burial will be in Forest Green Cemetery, Morganville.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Nov. 7 at the funeral home.
