Test your knowledge of the county Jan. 11

How much do you know about the natural world that surrounds us here in Monmouth County? Find out as the Monmouth County Audubon Society presents “Test your Monmouth County Nature IQ.” The program will be held at the Monmouth County Audubon Society meeting 8 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Road in Fair Haven. The public is welcome; admission is free.

Bob Henschel, president of the organization, will act as emcee for this game showstyle event. Questions will range from birds (how many different owls inhabit New Jersey every year?) to plants (what does a dog-toothed violet and a catbrier have in common?) to questions about our parks (where was the resident female bald eagle at the Manasquan Reservoir born?). Henschel is uniquely suited to organize and produce this event; having worked for the Monmouth County Park System until his retirement a few years ago, he is arguably the most knowledgeable person about the flora and fauna of our beautiful area. The evening promises to be a little silly, a little challenging and a lot of fun .

The Monmouth County Audubon Society, a chapter of the National Audubon Society, is dedicated to the enjoyment and study of nature, wildlife conservation, habitat protection, and education. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month September through May at the Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Road, Fair Haven; guest speakers address a wide variety of nature-related topics, and refreshments are provided. In addition, the group sponsors at least one field trip per month, and members receive The Osprey, the club’s bi-monthly newsletter. Further information and directions can be obtained by calling the organization’s hotline, or by visiting their website at www.monmouthaudubon.org, or via email at [email protected].
