‘Damn Yankees’ is CHS musical

What happens when you sell your soul to the devil … and then have second thoughts?
This is the dilemma facing Joe Hardy, a middle-aged real estate salesman and devoted baseball fan who chooses eternal damnation in exchange for a chance to be the long-ball hitter who can save the struggling Washington Senators.
"Damn Yankees" is the musical tale of Joe’s deal with devil, a certain Mr. Applegate who is allied with Lola, a vamping seductress. Lola does her best to help keep the devil’s claws in Joe until she finds that her heart is disobeying her head. Joe must decide whether to choose youth, fame and the lovely Lola, or give up the glory of the game to return to his ordinary life and loving wife . . . if he can wrangle out of his deal!
The Hopewell Valley Central High production of "Damn Yankees" is directed by Tom Zumchak and Karrin Phillips. It is choreographed by Tracy Katona. The production features a cast of over 75 students. There are two casts, with students in leading roles taking chorus parts for alternate performances.
The show features the popular tunes "(You Gotta Have) Heart" and "Whatever Lola Wants (Lola Gets)" and is suitable for all ages.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 23 and 24 and March 2 and 3.
Tickets cost $8 in advance, and $10 at the door. The high school musical often sells out so it is recommended that tickets be purchased in advance at the high school. For more information, call 737-1411.
