ADVERTISING AND MARKETING
Each year, the Princeton Packet provides free newspapers to area classrooms as part of our Newspapers in Education (NiE) program. We provide this service by underwriting 50% of the costs ourselves, and raising the remaining 50% through donations and fund-raisers. Building and developing partnerships between business and education is a tremendous association for our NiE program. Teachers will tell you that newspapers are an important resource enhancing the educational process. Sports statistics are used to teach math skills. Headlines can be diagrammed to teach English. History teachers can discuss ways that world history shapes today’s current events. The possibilities for newspapers in the classroom are endless.
In an effort to sustain and continue supporting our NiE program, the Princeton Packet is organizing and staging our first annual Corporate Spelling Bee. This event will provide an excellent opportunity for organizations to contribute to the NiE program. The Spelling Bee will take place at 5 p.m. on Friday 13th at Princeton High School in Princeton, New Jersey. All teams entered will receive recognition in Princeton Packet advertisements which promote the event, and team pictures will be featured in the paper highlighting the top three winning teams.
This event is organized along the following guidelines:
1. Teams consist of three members. If you do not have employees that want to spell, we have a pool of student volunteers who can represent your business.
2. Companies can enter more than one team.
3.The registration fee is $250 for each team.
4.Upon registration, each team will be sent a Words of Champions book, which lists the words that will be used in the Spelling Bee.
5.In the competition, all three members may confer, but only one member will spell the word.
6.The Spelling Bee will be conducted as a traditional spell-off, with elimination if a word is misspelled.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. We hope employees of your company will come to cheer for your spellers.
Deadline for entries is June 13th. Complete the enclosed entry form (pdf), and mail it with your entry fee. A post-paid envelope is included for your convenience. We’ll confirm your entry, and send you an information packet with all the details.
The evening should be fun-filled…highly competitive…and serve as a visible way to promote the work that the Newspapers in Education program is doing in Princeton, South Brunswick, Hillsborough, and Hopewell Valley. Each team entry allows us to give newspapers to several classrooms once a week for an entire school year. Students from elementary through high school will benefit from your participation.
