WASHINGTON Township officials are hoping to get residents more involved in this year’s Community Festival.
Chris Merias, Recreation Director for Washington Township, hopes this year’s festival, which will start 1 p.m. June 9 at the Washington Township Community Park on West Manor Way and Gordon Road, will be "more interactive for the residents."
The township has hired Ultrax DJs, a disc jockey company that calls itself "the party professionals." The company will run games for all ages, including a sack race, candy crawl, penny toss, tug o’ war, and a pie-eating contest. Admission is free.
Shot of Redemption, a folk-rock band, will be performing at 1:30. They do cover songs, mainly by Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Bob Marley, the Beatles, and Bruce Cockburn. They also play original tunes, mainly acoustic, but the electric guitar and the electric mandolin find their way into many performances.
The festival also boasts a kids play zone and fun tent, a food court, clowns, pony rides, and a magic show featuring a magician from Ultrax DJs. The 4-H Club of Mercer County will be supplying the animals for the petting zoo. There also will be an antique car exhibit.
Chris Hill from Re/Max Tri County will be exhibiting part of the Re/Max hot air balloon fleet from 7-8:30.
At dusk, Bay Fireworks will put on a fireworks display. The company uses a digital firing system that creates synchronized pyrotechnic programs set to music.
The main sponsors of the event are Sharbell Development, First Washington State Bank, Amway Corporation, Matrix Development Group, and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton.
The rain date for the festival is Saturday, June 16.
