PLUMSTED — Parking in New Egypt is about to get a little easier thanks to a new lot the township will construct on the former site of the Plumsted Branch of the Ocean County Library on Evergreen Road, Mayor Ron Dancer said.
Construction of the 37-space lot is made possible by a $110,000 state Centers Grant and $14,110 in township capital reserve funds, he said. A Centers Grant comes from the New Jersey Department of Transportation that provides funds to communities designated town centers.
Mayor Dancer said this is the second Centers Grant the township has received. The first, which also was a $110,000 award, allowed Plumsted to build a pedestrian bridge spanning Oakford Lake.
The new parking lot, according to Mayor Dancer, will provide convenient downtown parking both for businesses and future municipal needs. It will be landscaped, and include mock gaslight street lamps and a brick walkway to Main Street, he said.
The lot is next to the municipal building, which in the future is expected to include office space for the Community Development coordinator and the Economic Development Authority as part of the township’s downtown revitalization project.
A new municipal building is being constructed on Evergreen Road.
Mayor Dancer said the construction of the lot, by Mathis Construction Co. of Little Egg Harbor, is expected to begin in September and be completed by November.
