The Cranbury Public Library soon will be exposed to some Taiwanese culture.
The Windsor Area Taiwanese American Association, which works to promote understanding and appreciation of Taiwanese culture, will donate three sets of translated fiction, each containing seven works, to three area libraries, including Cranbury.
"These fictions are by some of the most celebrated Taiwanese writers," said Sue Lin of Cranbury, president of the organization. "They present a comprehensive view of Taiwan society in the 19th century."
The books, which will be donated to libraries in Cranbury, Plainsboro and West Windsor, will be displayed next week at a reception and seminar sponsored by Taiwanese group.
Seminar participants will view a video produced by Taiwan’s Tourist Bureau, which depicts the lush scenery and culture of Taiwan.
The video will be followed by two seminars on literature by two leading Western experts in studies of East Asia, professor Perry Link of Princeton University and professor Jeffrey Kinkley of St. John’s University.
"People who attend the seminar will find many experiences in common between our cultures and many interesting differences," said Ms. Lin .
The reception and seminar will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the West Windsor Senior Center, at the intersection of Clarksville Road and North Post Road.
