To the editor:
I am very pleased to hear that Dan Buriak is running for town council. It is always good for a town when such an active member of the community decides to take on even more responsibilities for the sole purpose of the good of the town he has made his home.
Mr. Buriak has always made himself quite visible as a positive force to improve Hightstown and he actually enjoys it. He is less a political aspirant than a citizen with a genuine concern for his community. In the three years I’ve lived here, I’ve come across no other person more involved in efforts to improve this town. He has a clear vision of how to revitalize downtown. Hightstown has the potential to capture its historic color and again become a place that people would actually drive to not just through. If any single resident could make this happen, it’s Mr. Buriak. He has the vision to bolster revitalization and strengthen our sense of community.
Dan has artfully swung a hammer to bring charm to his own home and shows every intention to bring that charm to a town very much in need of it. He has proven time and again to be an energetic leader with a knack for keeping neighbors in touch with one another to accomplish these goals. Never would I have thought that I would be posting (25 mph) signs up and down Stockton Street or climbing trees to string holiday lights, yet I did and the results of such events as these have always had positive outcomes. People slowed down in their cars making it safer for our kids, and the downtown actually looked pleasant for the holidays. Not afraid to grapple with controversial issues, Mr. Buriak will help to keep other local figures responsible and accountable.
November’s election for Hightstown Borough Council is not about party politics. For 24 years I’ve voted as a conservative Republican. I’m changing because this town needs change itself.
