To the editor
I would like to share a poem I wrote last week after the terrorist’s attacked. My heart goes out to all Americans and especially to those personally affected.
It is so very hard to believe
So very hard to conceive
This terror that happened in the sky
Dear God, I keep asking you why
Please give us the answers and help us to heal
From this earth shattering ordeal
So many people lost their right to live
Dear God I hope there is some peace you can give
Please protect and shelter our land
Reach out to us with your ever-loving hand
And show us how we can get away from the terror
This frightening act of murder has changed our lives forever
When will the pain and loss sink in?
When will we begin to recover from this awful sin?
When will the terrorists pay for their actions?
When will the country announce a reaction?
So many fires and so many flames
Don’t these terrorists feel any shame?
How could anyone commit such senseless acts of war?
Our country must act to insure that this will happen no more
Our hearts go out to the victims and their loved ones
Friends or relatives, daughters or sons
People from so many different walks of life
All searching for a brother, sister, husband or wife
What more awful thing could have been their fate?
Look at the horror of that awful date
September 11 is 911, the emergency code
What a long healing process is beginning to unfold
So please, dear God, provide us with strength to cope
Please give us the stamina to continue to hope
Please be with us all as we continue to pray
Our faith and hope must never fray
We will await the announcement from our President today
"We are going to war" against terrorism is what we expect him to say
The New York skyline will never again be the same
That magnificent view that gave New York such fame
Once again as our American flag does wave
We honor our country, the land of the free and the brave
So please dear God show us the way
To make sure our flag never will fray!!
To our country we will always be true
As we wave our flag of the red, white, and blue!
