Jane McHugh

Jane Henry McHugh, an artist, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, at her home in Lawrence.
Born and raised in Trenton, she attended the Trenton School of Industrial Arts. She went on to further develop her talent at the Art Student’s League in New York, where she studied painting and fashion illustration.
Later, as the sole artist for Dunham’s department stores in Trenton and Lawrence, her pen and ink illustrations appeared daily in the Trentonian, and weekly in the Times of Trenton for 15 years.
She moved from New Hope to Los Angeles in 1976, with her second husband, Hugh J. Rawdon. Her work continued with Stamps-Conhaim, the news media advertising service, from which she retired in 1988.
Following her husband’s death, she joined her eldest daughter in Clovis, Calif. There, her artistic pursuits continued, while she enjoyed a rewarding second career as a Home Care Companion.
She returned to her New Jersey roots in 2000. Throughout her life, she explored a passion for artistic expression, working primarily in charcoal and oil, with watercolor — later becoming her favorite medium. Her landscape and still life work has been exhibited in Pennsylvania, California and New Jersey.
Daughter of the late John J. and Alice K. Henry and sister of the late Barbara Henry Solan, she is survived by her first husband and friend, Robert G. McHugh of Lawrence; their three children, Katy McHugh of Los Angeles, Meghan J. McHugh of New Hope, Pa., and Robert G. McHugh Jr. of Chesterfield; her nieces, Colleen Solan Branham of Topton, N.C. and Jennifer Solan Little of Trenton.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Church, 1130 Brunswick Avenue 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23. Family and friends are invited to attend. There will be no calling hours. The burial service will be private.
The family requests that any remembrance contributions be made to the local SPCA or Animal Shelter in her name.
