MONROE- Driver charged in fatal accident

MONROE An East Windsor man faces a vehicular homicide charge after a car he was driving hit and killed a township resident walking his dog Easter Sunday morning.
Police said a 1990 Chevrolet Lumina driven by Manuel Zomba, 31, hit Charles D. Olchvary, 52, as he walked his dog on the side of Possum Hollow Road.
The accident took place at 8:48 a.m. Mr. Olchvary was pronounced dead at 9:25 a.m. at the scene of the accident. Mr. Olchvary’s dog, a beagle that was being walked on leash, was injured but survived, police said.
Police said Mr. Olchvary was walking on the northbound side of Possum Hollow Road where there is no sidewalk.
Mr. Olchvary, an agent for Prudential Insurance Co., was a native of New Brunswick and lived in East Brunswick before moving to Monroe two years ago.
Mr. Olchvary is survived by his wife, the former Judy Kwon; a son, Ross of North Brunswick; his parents Charles and Rose (Bodnar) Olchvary of East Brunswick; a sister, Linda Lavanco of East Brunswick, and two stepsons, Edward Pawlikowski of Piscataway and Ronald Pawlikowski of Vienna, Va., and by his former wife, Joann Olchvary of Forked River. His daughter, Jill Olchvary died in 1991.
Funeral services for Mr. Olchvary were scheduled for Thursday at the Selover Funeral Home in North Brunswick.
Mr. Olchvary was the fourth township motor-vehicle fatality of the month. Mary A. Tvardzik Fetchko died in a two-car accident at Applegarth Road and Centre Drive March 1. On March 11, Murray and Bella Adler both died in a collision with a dump truck at the intersection of Perrineville and Union Valley roads.
Mr. Zomba was charged with vehicular homicide and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
Mr. Zomba was lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center under $150,000 bail Sunday. He met bail and was released Monday, center officials said. He awaits a court date.
