EAST WINDSOR In the board room of the Municipal Building on Monday, the Presbyterian Homes of New Jersey Foundation presented the township with the deed to a 3-acre plot of land that will be the site of the township’s new senior center.
The land is located on Lanning Boulevard Extension near town hall and Wheaton Pointe, the affordable housing community owned by Presbyterian Homes and Services, an affiliate of the Presbyterian Homes of New Jersey Foundation. Presbyterian Homes and Services also owns the Meadow Lakes retirement community in Hightstown.
Along with Councilman Walter C. Daniels, Mayor Janice Mironov accepted a deed of transfer from Edward Truscelli, vice president of planning and development for Presbyterian Homes and Services. The company’s CEO, Gary Puma, was scheduled to make the presentation, but had to cancel for personal reasons.
"We’re very happy to work with Mayor Mironov," Mr. Truscelli said after posing for photos with the mayor and Mr. Daniels, "to forward the goals of the senior center. We’re looking forward to the realization of that project."
Mayor Mironov thanked Mr. Truscelli and Presbyterian Homes for its consistent support and contributions to senior citizens.
"This is just another occasion where they’ve stepped up to the plate," she said.
The township will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the senior center April 27 at 11:30 a.m.
Construction of the 2,289-square-foot, seven-room senior center is expected to cost $1.65 million. Almost $1.5 million of that cost has been underwritten by federal, state and local grants. The sale of the existing senior center on Dutch Neck Road also will help fund the project.
