The Rev. Donald I. Thiel, 67, died Tuesday at Chandler Hall Nursing Home, Newtown, Pa.
Born in Albion, N.Y., he was a member of the clergy at the First Presbyterian Church of Ewing.
He attended Albion (N.Y.) High School; graduated from of Pittsburgh Seminary; received a bachelor’s degree from Maryville College in Tennessee and a master’s from Princeton Theological Seminary.
He was formerly the clergy of Greenfield Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh; Covenant Presbyterian Church, Erie, Pa.; Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church, Baltimore; Pennington Presbyterian Church; Hitchcock Presbyterian Church of Scarsdale, N.Y.; First Presbyterian Church of Montgomery, N.Y.; Bellmore Presbyterian Church of Long Island, N.Y.; was interim associate pastor of the Presbytery of Long Island, N.Y.; First Presbyterian Church of Orange; Presbyterian Church of Florham Park; Presbyterian Church of Sparta; First Presbyterian Church of Flemington; Yardville Presbyterian Church; and Hugunet Presbyterian Church of New York.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church Educators; served on the National Board of Directors for the National Presbyterian Churches; and was a member of the Covenant Network and Multiple Ministers Association.
He is survived by two daughters and their partners, Katherine I. Thiel and Meg Harbison of Millers Falls, Mass., and Elizabeth A. Thiel and Mary Virmillion of Iowa City, Iowa.
Memorial service will be noon Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Ewing, with the Rev. Donald Prytherch, pastor of Schooley’s Mountain Presbyterian Church in New Jersey and the Rev. Pat Daley officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
