James T. Campbell, 71, of Jamesburg, died Monday, April 29, at The Medical Center at Princeton.
Born in Scranton, Pa., he was reared at St. Michael’s Home for Boys in Scranton, Pa., by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and graduated in 1950 from St. John’s High School in Pittston, Pa. He later lived in Linden before moving to Jamesburg 40 years ago.
Mr. Campbell was employed as a shipping clerk for 19 years at Carter-Wallace in Cranbury, retiring in 1994. Previously, he was employed by Phelps Dodge in South Brunswick.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Campbell was a member of the St. James Knights of Columbus Council 6336 in Jamesburg, a 4th Degree member of the Immaculate Conception Assembly in Spotswood, a member of the Jamesburg Senior Citizens, and a member of the Merri Eights Square Dance Club in East Brunswick. Jim was an assistant recreation director in Jamesburg in the late 1960s and early ’70s. He participated in numerous slow-pitch softball leagues.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Burke; his loving daughter, Ann Marie Campbell of Jamesburg; his loving son, Michael of Monroe; two brothers, Thomas Campbell and his wife, Janet, of Syracuse, N.Y., and Alex Flanagan and his wife, Mary Ann, of Green Brook; a sister, Katherine Norbury and her husband, James, of Wilmington, Del., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held Thursday, May 2, at Lester Memorial Home, 16 W. Church St. in Jamesburg, followed by a funeral liturgy at St. James R.C. Church in Jamesburg. Burial was at Holy Cross Burial Park in East Brunswick.
