‘The Society of Gilders: Covered in Gold’

The Monmouth Museum will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year with special exhibitions and events planned to reflect the “Circle of Gold Anniversary” theme.

The museum will feature “The Society of Gilders: Covered in Gold” through Nov. 10, an exhibition of fine art and decorative objects with gold and metal leaf.

The works were created by members of the society.

The Society of Gilders is an international nonprofit devoted to the art of gilding.

Gilding is the application of thin sheets of beaten metal, usually gold, to a solid surface as a means of surface decoration. The methods of gilding used today were rooted in ancient Egypt and later refined during the Renaissance.

A series of lectures are being presented on the following Sundays at the museum in conjunction with the exhibition:  Oct. 27, 3 p.m. Jason Crafts of The Gilt Complex will present a gilding demonstration.

A tour of the Society of Gilders exhibition at the museum will follow.
