Shore AC holds on to state championship

The Shore Athletic Club has been on a four-decade winning streak. On May 28, the Shore AC ran its winning streak at the USA Track and Field New Jersey Open Team Championships at Rowan University to 38 straight. The women made it a nice double for the Shore AC squad by winning the state title as well

This year, the meet doubled as the Eastern USA Championships, and Shore AC scored decisive wins over 16 teams gathered from Virginia to New England.

The Shore AC men rolled up 74 points and the ShoreAC women netted 54.

Runner-up clubs were the Garden State Track Club men (42) and the Central Park Track Club/New Balance women (37.)

Field-event power was one key to the Shore AC men’s victory.

Josue Louis won the high jump (6- 6¾), Tim Boeni the long jump (24-7¼), TuanWreh the triple jump (51-7¼), Matt DiBuono the hammer throw (217-5) and Sean Biehn the javelin throw (208-8).

SAC teammates Kevin Thompson (200 meters, 21.05) and Rich Luettchau (5,000 racewalk, 24.41) added wins on the track.

Capping it all were victories in a pair of relays. Jamal Roberts, Tim Boeni, Josue Louis and Ken Davis took the 4×400 in 42.12, and Larry Ramirez, Alan Laws, Shawn Bender and Rich Luettchau were winners in the distance medley (10:57.54.)

Shore AC women’s team provided an array of winners, too.

And wrapping it up for the SAC women was a win by the team of Maurelhena Walles, Lindsay Thomas, Lauren Henkel and Maria Paul in the sprint medley (6:35.27). Earlier, Walles ran second in the 400 (57.46) with Henkel sixth at 1:00.43. In a hectic afternoon, Thomas also ran in the 400, where she was fifth (58.80), and she was seventh in the 200 (27.31)

Amy Thayer threw 200-8 for second in the women’s hammer; Joan Wagner added a fourth in the discus (95-11½) and a fifth in the hammer (111-9).

Katherine Salke and Jessica Cooke, Towson University teammates and new Shore AC members, played key roles, too. Salkewas second in the high jump (5-1) and triple jump (35-10¾) and ran third in the 100 hurdles (15.08). Cooke was second in the long jump (16-1¾) and seventh in the hurdles (16.03).
