Police were called to the Apple Inn at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 1 to take a theft report.
The inn’s owner, Virginia Napurano, called when she discovered numerous pieces of Austrian china missing.
The china, valued at more than $900, was stored in a locked room on the third floor of the establishment. Ms. Napurano said she had stored the china two years ago. She added guests did not have access to this area, and she was not sure when the china had been taken.
Police were supplied with an itemized list of the missing items this week. The 51 pieces included a chocolate pot, cups, saucers, dessert plates, bread and butter dishes, fruit bowls, platters and other pieces. They are all in the Vienna Rose pattern.
A Toms River woman was arrested Feb. 10 following a motor vehicle stop.
Christine K. Carpini, 24, was stopped at 2 a.m. on Route 29 near Mt. Hope Street for having improper safety glass and tinted windows in her car, police said.
Police discovered an outstanding warrant for Ms. Carpini’s arrest issued by the Upper Freehold Municipal Court in the amount of $278 bail. She was released after posting bail.
A Freehold man was charged with drunken driving Feb. 9.
Kenneth J. Doran, 43, was stopped on Route 29 southbound near Towle’s Towing at 2:20 a.m. by police after they saw him driving erratically and clocked him doing 60 in a 40-mph zone, police said.
Mr. Doran was taken to Hunterdon County Jail in lieu of $500 bail. He also was charged with speeding, failure to maintain lanes and careless driving.
Police have announced the hiring of Roman "Anthony" Memolo, 28, as a full-time police officer, effective Feb. 9.
Mr. Memolo, who was the city’s former parking enforcement officer, graduated from the Trenton Police Academy Feb. 6.
