Rocky Forte will be missed

To the editor

    Kudos for Forte.
Hillsborough High School Athletic Director Rocky Forte recently retired after many long years of tireless service. I am sad to see him go for his is a no-nonsense, straight-shooter who was devoted to the students and athletes of Hillsborough High School and Somerset County.
I watched Rocky guide the HHS sports programs from the Mountain Valley Conference to the Mid-State Conference and then into the Skyland Conference. Two of my sons participated in six different sports programs skippered by Mr. Forte. They respected him and so do I.
As a former cable TV sports play-by-play guy and the host of a long-gone weekly high school sports cable TV show (Sportscene), I had the privilege of interviewing Rocky numerous times.
What I liked about him is I always knew where he stood on every issue. He never minced words. He was my kind of sports guy.
Rocky Forte always treated everyone equally and fairly. In short, he was a good man and a great athlete in his time at Somerville High. I regret that my last son who will be a frosh at HHS next year won’t get to know Mr. Forte better.
So long, Rocky. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement. Thanks for a job well done.
