Helen Goulding Butterfoss, 89, of Pennington died Jan. 8 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton.
Born October 16, 1914 in Trenton, she moved to Pennington in 1955.
One of the first to graduate from the then new Trenton Central High School, she went to Trenton Normal School, the new Trenton State Teachers’ College and Rider Business School. She was the first secretary for the newly formed Department of Higher Education and later worked as a secretary for Roebling Steel.
Daughter of the late Albanus W. Goulding and Jane MacCrellish Goulding and sister of the late John (Jack) Goulding and Robert Goulding, she is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harry J. Butterfoss; two sons, former Pennington councilman and retired Pennsbury teacher Richard W. Butterfoss and his wife Gail Turner Butterfoss of Pennington and artist Thomas H. Butterfoss of Robbinsville; a sister-in-law, Helen Goulding of Lawrenceville; two grandchildren, Bryan T. Butterfoss of Pennington and Amanda Lee Hujber of Hamilton.
Funeral services were private.
