WEST WINDSOR New chaplains for the Princeton Junction and West Windsor volunteer fire companies will be sworn in Monday.
Rabbi Eric Wisnia of Congregation Beth Chaim, the Rev. Floyd Chum of First Presbyterian Church of Dutch Neck and the Rev. Timothy Capewell of St. David the King Catholic Church are to be named as the newest members of the fire companies. The public is invited to watch as the trio is officially issued badges around 9 p.m. at the West Windsor fire company on South Mill Road.
Local and national tragedies like Sept. 11, 2001 make having chaplains a necessity especially now that the companies have expanded to include more volunteers, said West Windsor Fire Chief Michael Leahy.
"We’re all big guys and girls but things happen that affect us," Mr. Leahy said. Having a diverse group of chaplains is also a good way to reach out to the community and helps the company be more inclusive, said Rick Visovsky, president of the West Windsor company.
Chief Leahy said he’s not sure how long the companies have been without chaplains, but the West Windsor company has not had one for at least seven years.
