HALIFAX, Nova Scotia — Ruth Marie Petrykanyn died suddenly of cancer Thursday at Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre. She was 24.
   Born in Westfield, she grew up in West Windsor and Princeton. Her family also lived in Cairo, Egypt.
   She attended Maurice Hawk Elementary School and John Witherspoon Middle School, and graduated from Princeton High School in 1997. She was president of the senior class, a recipient of the school’s Gold Key and a student council member.
   She received a bachelor’s degree from Acadia University in 2002 and received a bachelor of journalism degree from University of Kings College. While at Acadia, she was deeply involved in student life and served as president of her residence hall and president of the Acadia Students’ Union.
   Daughter of the late Walter John Petrykanyn, she is survived by her mother, Gail MacLauchlan Petrykanyn of Sarasota, Fla.; sister Patricia Valentyne of Toronto; brothers Colin Petrykanyn of Halifax and John, Lawrence and Richard Petrykanyn, all of Toronto; and best friend Kenneth Sedgewick of Halifax.
   A memorial service was held Saturday at Acadia University.

Doris B. Maxwell

Longtime area resident
TRENTON — Doris B. Maxwell died May 21 at home. She was 73.
   Born in Princeton, she lived in the Princeton and Trenton area her entire life.
   She was a cafeteria, library and playground aide at Community Park School in Princeton and a playground attendant at the park at John and Lytle streets, both for 26 years.
   She was a member of First Baptist Church of Princeton.
   She was educated at Witherspoon School for Colored Children and the Mary Potter Academy in Oxford, N.C.
   Daughter of the late James A. Bullock and Marie Bullock Thacker, mother of the late Martin Dean Edwards, sister of the late Laura Brooks and James A. Bullock Jr., sister-in-law of the late Maxton Maxwell, she is survived by her husband, Clarence Maxwell of Trenton; brothers-in-law Henry Maxwell of Ewing, James Maxwell of Levittown, Pa., Robert Maxwell of Ewing and Frank Maxwell of Hamilton; sister-in-law Frances Maxwell Leverett and her husband, the Rev. Ernest F. Leverett, of Washington Township; and many nieces and nephews.
   The funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave., Trenton, with the Rev. Ernest F. Leverett officiating.
   Interment will be at Princeton Cemetery.
   Visiting hour will be noon until time of service at the funeral home.

Gennie V. Deans of Princeton died Wednesday at University Medical Center at Princeton. She was 82.
   She is survived by a daughter, Sandra D. Enlow of Chesapeake, Va.; grandsons Shawn Deans of Norfolk, Va., and Anthony Enlow of Chesapeake, Va.; and many other relatives and friends.
   The funeral was Monday at Hughes Funeral Home, Trenton.
