LETTERS: Bush offers failed policies

To the editor:

I am a voter, a security mom and a firm believer of truth. George Bush has not been truthful to the American people. Contrary to what he has said, the reality is that he has not made America safe from the threat of nuclear terrorism. He hasn’t secured the world’s most dangerous weapons and has done far too little to stop the nuclear programs in North Korea and Iran. Meanwhile, our chemical plants and ports are not secured.
Furthermore, under President Bush and his failed policies, first responders don’t have the equipment or funds they need, and cities are bearing the burden of homeland security costs.
I believe there is an answer. His name is John Kerry. He will lead a new era of alliances that will allow us to execute a more efficient war on terror. He’ll increase our troop strength by 40,000 and double the number of Special Forces. Sen. Kerry will take the threat of nuclear terrorism seriously, securing vulnerable bomb-making materials, preventing the production of new materials for nuclear weapons, and working to end nuclear weapons programs in hostile states like North Korea and Iran.
And as president, John Kerry will keep us safer at home by investing in our first responders; securing and protecting our nuclear and chemical facilities; bolstering port, rail, and aviation security; and strengthening and improving information sharing. This November, we have a choice between four years of failed policies or a new direction for our country.
   I am choosing John Kerry.
