Obituaries Kenneth J. Essig

Mr. Essig, 67, of Middletown died Dec. 10 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Orange, he resided in Newark prior to moving to Middletown in 1955. He was a letter carrier at the U.S. Postal Service, Middletown, for 38 years, retiring in 1992. He also worked as a courier for the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey, Red Bank, for 24 years. He served with the U.S. Army, and was also a former boxer in the military. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Essig in 1998. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, K. Scott and Sue Essig of Tinton Falls; his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Michael Zambuto of the Leonardo section of Middletown; his brother, Glenn Essig of Georgia; two sisters, Marlene Wagner of Brick, and Judith Santiago of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Hazel Bell Angster

Mrs. Angster, 83, of Taunton, Mass., died Dec. 15 in Taunton. Born in Newark, she resided in Eatontown prior to moving to Taunton four years ago. She was a retired registered licensed practical nurse. She was predeceased by her husband, Cortlandt Angster in 1994. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Testa of South River; her brother, John Bell of Cooley, N.Y.; three sisters, Ada Giuliano of Meyersville, Dorothy Kyrk of Liberty, N.Y., and Edna Auth of Stausburg, Pa.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements were by Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. Burial was at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. Johanna Maloney Fennell Cain

Mrs. Cain, 93, of Matawan died Dec. 16 at Bayshore Healthcare Center, Holmdel. Born in Bona Vista Bay, Newfoundland, Canada, she came to New York City and resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Matawan in 1977. Mrs. Cain was a homemaker. She was a former communicant of St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. She was a member of the Leisure Timers, a charter member of Minnisink Village Senior Club, and a member of the Sunshine Girls, all at Minnisink Village, Matawan. She enjoyed time with her family, bingo, and crocheting. She was predeceased by a son, Donald Maloney, in 1966; a daughter, Rita Marney, in 1987; her first husband, Richard Maloney, in 1970; and her second husband, John Ralph Cain, in 1978. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Cathy Maloney of Brooklyn; four daughters, Marie McPartlin of Melbourne, Fla.; Irene McGrath of Red Bank; Diane Long of Aberdeen, Md.; and Janet Briggs of Freehold Township; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Jose Fennell of Bona Vista Bay, Newfoundland; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at the Church of St. Robert Bellarmine, Freehold Township. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. Arrangements were by C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia.

B. Roy Aravecz

Mr. Aravecz, 73, of the Lincroft section of Middletown died Dec. 13 at Blythe House, Tinton Falls. Born in Elizabeth, he resided in Middletown 41 years. He was the owner/operator of Monmouth Exxon, Holmdel, for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He was a founding member of the Mater Dei Booster Club, New Monmouth, and an avid fisherman. He was predeceased by his wife, Anita Aravecz in 1992. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Claire and Edward Andia of Middletown; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Cathy Aravecz of Lincroft, and John and Rondi Aravecz of Freehold; and four grandchildren. A funeral gathering will be held Dec. 17 at 8:30 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral liturgy will follow at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. Burial will follow at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia. Memorial donations may be made to Mater Dei Booster Club, 538 Church St., New Monmouth 07748.

Katherine Friede

Mrs. Friede of Tinton Falls died Dec. 17 at Renaissance Gardens and Rehabilitation Center, Tinton Falls. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, she lived in Rumson before moving to Tinton Falls three years ago. Mrs. Friede was a social work supervisor in adoption services at Family & Children’s Services of Monmouth County, Freehold, where she was employed several years before retiring. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and Planned Parenthood. She was predeceased by her fist husband, Thomas McEvilley Jr. in 1974; and her second husband, Kenneth Friede in 1982. Mrs. Friede is survived by a daughter, Ellen M. Griffin of Gainsville, Fla.; a son, Thomas McEvilley III of New York City; a brother, Reed Bartlett of Naples, Fla.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Canonico Ravaschieri

Mrs. Ravaschieri, 96, of West Long Branch died Dec. 18 at Jersey Shore Care Center, Eatontown. Born in Red Bank, she was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Ravaschieri was a sewing machine operator before her retirement. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Ravaschieri, in 1988; a sister, Rose DiGuglielmo; and four brothers, Steve, Nunzio, Carmen, and Fred. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Lucille Ravaschieri Jr. of West Long Branch; a daughter and son-in-law, Antoinette and Walter Yarborough of Tinton Falls; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church, West Long Branch. Interment was at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. The Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch, was in charge of arrangements.
