COUNCIL UPDATE
By John Tredrea
Free mulch will be available to Pennington Borough residents beginning April 15, Councilman David Garber announced at council’s meeting Monday night.
The mulch will available at Kunkel Park and the Senior Center.
Mr. Garber said residents with complaints about recycling should call the Mercer County Improvement Authority (MCIA) at 278-8086. He said the MCIA will be holding its annual household chemical waste disposal day on April 16 at the John Dempster fire school on Bakers Basin Road in Lawrence.
Mr. Garber, council’s liaison to public works, said that department picked up 69.5 tons of household trash last month. It was 78.4 tons in March 2004. The borough pumped 7,602,000 gallons of water last month. On a daily basis, that was an average of 12,100 more gallons per day than last March.
Councilman Weed Tucker said the borough police made 111 vehicle stops last month and issued 66 summonses, wrote 15 parking tickets and issued 48 written warnings.
Mr. Tucker said the borough has received a number of complaints about failures to follow the pooper-scooper law for pet waste. He noted that an individual could be fined for failure to follow this law.
