Cable television costs require regulation

I t is long past time for cable television rates to be regulated and customers afforded à la carte pricing, rather than paying for 100-plus channels that no one watches. Pressure must be placed on the Federal Communications Comission as well as on federal and state legislators.

The problem has become extreme as prices go up frequently and astronomically, with added surcharges like sports programming, which has gone from $2.95 to $5.95 per month even though I and many others do not even subscribe or watch the sports channel. It is insane. Now, Optimum is raising the monthly rate of the remote controls to almost $8 per month per remote. There simply is no one or nothing to stop this assault upon the consumer.

Our legislators and customers of Optimum must become more active and vocal in controlling and regulating this monstrous monopoly.
