Area man faces burglary charges

UPPER FREEHOLD — A resident of Hamilton Township has been charged in connection with his alleged involvement in three burglaries in Upper Freehold Township.

The New Jersey State Police charged Benjamin C. Evans, 53, with burglary, theft and criminal mischief. Evans was arrested on Jan. 16.

Police provided information about the following incidents:

 On Nov. 13, an Upper Freehold home was broken into. A window was shattered and jewelry valued at $10,500 was stolen from the residence. Police did not provide the location of the home.

 On Nov. 13, a second Upper Freehold residence was broken into. Jewelry valued at $800 was stolen. Police did not provide the location of the home.

 On Jan. 7, an Upper Freehold property was broken into. Items police described as Caterpillar batteries valued at $1,300 were stolen. Police did not provide the location of the property.

Similar burglaries and thefts have been reported in neighboring municipalities, according to police.

Whether Evans had involvement with any additional incidents is the subject of an ongoing investigation, according to Trooper Alina Gutierrez-Spies of the state police Office of Public Affairs.

Evans remains incarcerated at the Monmouth County jail, Freehold Township, on $25,000 bail, according to documents provided by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
