To the editor:
This letter is to sincerely thank you and all others who have made it possible for South Brunswick to begin to reach out to the city of D’Iberville, Miss., which suffered devastation through the powerful hand of Hurricane Katrina. Your coverage of the situation has helped in securing donations from many concerned citizens and it is our hope that these donations will continue to flow as needed.
Six weeks after the storm, D’Iberville is still at wits’ end not knowing where to begin its renewal. One thing is clear: the residents simply cannot do it alone. Our help is their hope. I would also like to publicly thank all those who so generously agreed to serve on the "South Brunswick Ralllies for Relief" committee as they are not only busy people but have the necessary concern for the unfortunate residents who need this help. Let me also thank all those who have come forward with donations of medical supplies, food, sheets and blankets, tools, cleaning supplies, books, school supplies and money.
A very special thank-you goes to Fedex Corporation for the donated truck and driver, Southern Container for boxes and other packing materials and T.A.G. for pallets, all at a time when corporate has pretty much finished donating; Friends of the South Brunswick Library for forgoing the donations made to the library and instead passing them on to the committee to help to restore D’Iberville’s lost collection of books and to Emily Skalko and Daria Gonzales, two young ladies who sold lemonade and raised $67 for the cause. None of us would be very far without all your help.
As Yogi Berra once said, "It ain’t over ’til it’s over." We still have a very long way to go but know that we are grateful for all that’s been done so far. We’ll keep you posted.
